Galen Braunshausen, age 89, of Easton, MN, died Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Nicollet Place in Blue Earth, surrounded by his family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Easton, MN, with Fr. Andrew Vogel and Deacon Gene Paul officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 30 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Easton, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday . Interment will be in OLMC Catholic Cemetery, with Military Honors accorded by the Easton American Legion Post and the Wells Color Guard.
Galen was born March 24, 1927, the son of Leo and Edith (Paul) Braunshausen in Barber Township, Faribault Co., MN. He grew up in rural Easton on the family farm. Galen was united in marriage to Patricia Keefe in Delavan, MN on January 16, 1951. Galen was drafted into the United State Army February 1951, where he joined the 25th Division in Korea February 1952. He fought in 3 major battle fronts: Punch Bowel, Heart Break Ridge, and Iron Front Triangle. He spent 2 weeks on Koji Island guarding North Korean prisoners. He was honorably discharged in March of 1953. Galen farmed for 40 years. Together the couple raised ten children: 6 boys and 4 girls. He and Pat shared 51 years of marriage before her death in 2002. Galen was a life-long member of OLMC Catholic Church where he served on the parish council for 10 years. Galen was a member of the Easton American Legion Post and the Wells VFW for over 60 years. He served on the Easton Farmers Elevator Board for 8 years. Galen loved spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Ann (1965), and wife Pat (2002).
Galen is survived by his children, 6 sons: Steve (wife Martha) Braunshausen of Norfolk, VA, Dennis (wife Peggy) Braunshausen of Farmington, MN, Jim (Tobi) Braunshausen of Mankato, MN, John Braunshausen of Prior Lake, MN, Mark (wife Pam) Braunshausen of Easton, MN, Joe Braunshausen of Waconia, MN; 3 daughters: Mary (husband Jeff) Ovrebo of Wells, MN, Teresa (husband Brian) Voss of Waseca, MN, Gwen (husband Ted) Armon of Blue Earth, MN; 25 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Charlene Borris and Annella Clarke, both of Wells, MN, brother: Julian (wife Miriam) Braunshausen of Mankato, MN; sister-in-law: Elaine Olson of Minneapolis, MN, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
