Lester Hobart Salisbury died Sunday, January 12, 2020 at Koda Senior Living Center in Owatonna, MN. Visitation will be held Thursday January 16, 2020 at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells from 4:00-7:00 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Friday. Funeral service will be held Friday January 17, 2020 at 10:30 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Pastor Mary Iverson officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Wells with full Military Honors by the Wells Color Guard.
Lester was born October 24, 1932, in Heron Lake, Minnesota to Hobart and Elvira (Waldron) Salisbury. Lester joined the Air Force and served from April 1951 to April of 1955. He was stationed in Alaska and worked as an airplane mechanic. Lester married Yvonne Frisk on April 1, 1956 in Anaheim, CA. Lester was a Master Mechanic at the food processing plant in Wells and ended his working career at Stokley Canning. After retirement, Lester worked part time at Prestress as an escort and parts delivery for 12 years.
Lester was a leader for the Boy Scouts. He was an active member of his church, Good Shepherd Lutheran, where he was an usher. He served on the Rosehill Cemetery board. Lester was also a member of the Wells American Legion and Wells VFW.
Lester is survived by his wife of 63 years, Yvonne, of Owatonna, MN; children: Kevin (Bea) Salisbury, Winona, MN, David Salisbury, Kansas City, MO, Craig (Karen) Salisbury, Lanesville, IN, and Jodie Salisbury, Owatonna, MN; Grandchildren: Amanda (Jeff) Weifenbach, Winona, MN, Rachel Vogel, Tybee Island, GA, Leah (Nick ) Schmitz, Eden Valley, MN, Megan Salisbury, Lanesville, IN, Shannon (Dylan) Bakken, Spicer, MN, Brianne Salisbury, Lanesville, IN, Dylan Salisbury, St. Peter, MN, and Cole Salisbury, St. Peter, MN; Great Grandchildren: Kirsten Weifenbach, Brookings, SD and Payton Weifenbach, Winona, MN; Brother: Bert (Joyce) Salisbury, Albert Lea, MN; Sisters-in-law: Mary Lou Salisbury, Anaheim, CA, and Marlyce (Denny) Kalmes, Rosemount, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Lester is preceded in death by his parents, Hobart and Elvira Salisbury; Son, Gary Salisbury; brothers, Rolland and Dean Salisbury; and three sisters, one in infancy, Genevieve Duinkerkin, and Virginia Smith.
